Cat with a halo
I very rarely get just one idea for a fanwork - normally I get two at once, and they both end up being so flawed that I end up doing neither.

Just so you can see what I mean, here are the ideas I had yesterday:

Contains spoilers for current series of Doctor Who )

Can I divorce my own brain now?

Things I need to write:

Things my brain wants me to write:

  • How 5 queer characters reacted to the zombie apocalypse and lived to tell the tale - although I've only got 4 so far

My brain is weird.
Two women in fancy dress kissing
Thank you to everyone who wished me a happy yesterday. It went well. I had a Lush bath, and wore my pretty back dress, and was very nice to myself all day.

I also wrote and posted my first explicit(?) porn: Mother Tongue (Final Fantasy X: Yuna/Rikku). Slightly geeky language learning porn FTW! And now I never have to write actual porn again, except there's this other prompt for the same challenge that I kinda want to do. I like my small fandoms though, and I'm not sure if the Rocky Horror Picture Show is a small enough fandom fanfic-wise for me to feel comfortable posting something for it.

Someone filled one of my prompts over at [community profile] queerlygen: Babysitting at the CNY Parade (Saving Face: Wil, Vivian, Wil's sister)! It is so pretty.

And finally, just to scare you all, I spent most of yesterday morning reading about a programme I remember from my childhood, and remembered something... interesting. Anyone else remember Captain Scarlet And The Mysterons? I shipped White/Green. You know how old I was when I first saw that? I was seven. I WAS A SEVEN YEAR OLD SLASHER. And I totally thought that all the Angels were doing it between missions! No wonder I've ended up like this.

I believe that there needs to be more F/F fic (femslash, girlslash, yuri, saffic - whatever you want to call it) in the world. To back up my argument, I present to you the breakdown of the most recent fics posted to AO3 as of 5:40pm (GMT).

CategoryNumber of FicsPercentage (approx)
F/F444.6%
F/M18119.0%
Gen25827.0%
M/M40142.0%
Multi576.0%
Other141.5%

Or, for those who'd rather see that in piechart form:

(No, I'm totally not using this as an excuse to get my geek on, so hush. That said, if anyone just happens get access to/know how to get access to the numbers-breakdown for all the fics posted to AO3 (or any other archive for that matter, I'm not fussy), I would do almost anything to look at them. I kinda love numbers, no lie. Also, I plan on comparing this set of figures to the figures as they stand this time next week, if I remember, because this particular snapshot might not be all that fair/representative.)

Anyway, back to the point - WE NEED MORE FEMSLASH.

How exactly this should be accomplished is something I should have thought about before I started making this post. Hmmm.

[So that this isn't a completely wasted post, things you could talk about in the comments include:

  • Your favourite F/F pairings (or F/F/F threesomes, etc)
  • Fics you like
  • Fics you'd like to see written
  • Fics you're writing/trying to write (especially if you'd like me/people in general to cheer you on/handhold/beta/etc)

Or you could just complain about the lack of F/F fic out there - I'm not going to stop you, because that'd be ten kinds of hypocritical.]
Two women in fancy dress kissing
The first ten people to comment in this post get to request that I write a drabble of any pairing/character of their choosing...
(There were rules for this, but I ate them. Om nom nom rules.)

I'm making up my own rules here, because I can.

Fandoms that I can write in include (but are not limited to) Final Fantasy XII, Final Fantasy IX, Superdictionary, (new) Doctor Who1, Harry Potter, D.E.B.S, Criminal Minds and most other fandoms I've ever talked to you about (if you're not sure, just ask!) Things that I write well include girlslash (or whatever you want to call it), fluff, crack, families of choice and Superdictionary idiom2.

Also, the ten prompts will come from the comments to this post and all related crossposts, as I don't want to promise more than ten. However, if we do reach ten, feel free to add other suggestions, and I'll have a go at any extras that catch my fancy.

And now I'm going to list some things I want to write/see written, but don't know if I can do justice to: )

1 I'm confident about writing Ten and I'll try Nine, but I don't have a handle on Eleven yet. Sorry!
2 Even in fandoms that aren't Superdictionary related. Why not?

My brain, being the fantastically annoying thing that it is, is trying to get me to write a Merlin AU - But I'm A Cheerleader! style.

I want to tell my brain that this isn't happening, but then I get this image of Uther telling people that they're not going to be gay anymore, and I really want to write it. Or at least see it written. Shame I didn't think of this a few months ago - I could have done it for [livejournal.com profile] reel_merlin.

For those in Harry Potter fandom: has FtM!Sirius been done before? Do you think it's even possible to do it, and do it well? Are there any other HP characters that you think I could do something similar with? (Yes, this is totally down to that prompt in [community profile] queerlygen, not my fault at all.)

For those who want to know: the reason that I'm focusing on things like the above right now is because someone thought that a good time to test how sane I am will be 9:30am on Thursday. The only way to get to that appointment on time involves being on a bus at the same time as several schoolkids, and there's a 50/50 chance that they'll start taking the mickey out of me along the way. There's also an 100% chance that said bus will be crowded, which will make me paranoid as all hell, making the chances of me making a good impression on anyone (nevermind someone who deals in mental health) equal to 0. Or possibly less than 0, if it's a really bad day.

I was going to talk about all the gender-related fail I've come across in the last few days, but then I came across this macro and, magically, everything's better:

^_^

Also, you know what? Signing up for [community profile] areyougame was a Bad Idea. Or at the very least, I should have stuck with the one prompt that I was sure I could do something with. Even that one didn't get much of a reception (although I'm about to link to it in every community that I can think of, and have already managed to get it included in the Transfic master list, which proves that I'm good at selling stuff at least), and I'm still unsure if "very interesting" is a compliment or not. I'm also going to link the hell out of the third fic I posted there, for reasons of MOAR GIRLSLASH - Final Fantasy XII has many pretty (and easily slashable) boys, so the girls seem to get left out. Or at least, that's how I see it. I'm hoping that no-one ever finds the second fic I posted to that community, because it was awful and should be allowed to die with some dignity, so I won't be linking to that, ever.

Not bad going, you're probably thinking. Yet I've just had to give up on the other two prompts I claimed (don't worry, I told the mod, although there doesn't seem to be any precedent for it in that community o.o), because I can't get them to work at all. And one of them was my own freaking prompt, so it's not like I haven't had time to work on it.

I'm just frustrated, you know? I would like, for once, just to get through a full fic challenge without having to apologise to the mods for not completing everything (or not completing it at all in one case). Either that or I should learn to accept that I am not made for fic challenges, and learn to just write my own ideas at my own pace.

And I have lots of ideas. Oh man, do I.

So, do you have any fic ideas going on right now that you'd like to talk about?
