A kitty in a santa hat!
I'm okay.

Well, actually, I'm not okay, but I'm okay with that. It is not my fault if I'm going through a low patch with my depression, even if I really should have seen it coming a mile off - that was a mistake, everyone makes them, right? Right. Anyway, I'm making up for it by treating myself nicely. I'm even offsetting having a bath (I hate baths, I'm a shower person, but I don't have a shower and even if I did I'd probably fall over, so a bath it is) with 80s classics. Of course, Christmas songs would have been better, but even with all the stations I can get on my radio, there doesn't seem to be one devoted to Christmas music, which is a massive shame, because I would so listen to that :(

So, what are your favourite Christmas songs?

(Christmas music makes me happy, and I could do with more happy, so the question is totally relevant to the rest of the post.)
Garnet's important haircut from FFIX
What have I been doing lately that has stopped me from updating? Not much really, although quite a bit of it has involved re-playing Final Fantasy X and trying not to destroy my PS2 in the process.

Let's just say that me and FFX aren't friends right now, and leave it at that.

The other day, I found an old CD that someone sent to me years ago which had some of the tracks from Final Fantasy IX. How it has survived this long is beyond me.

But, oh! I've been reminded that FFIX really is the game of my heart. Musings about the Final Fantasy IX soundtrack )

So not much has been going on, except I got some new clothes the other day. Anyone want to see some terrible photos? Warning: these photos are bad. )

A blue swirl, with the word "Twirl"
I woke up to an evil amount of pain in my back and a distinct lack of money in my bank account. One phone call and a couple of painkillers later, and both of those problems were sorted. And the day only got better from there.

Some of the things I did today:
  • Had a bath
  • Listened to music (including a few songs I haven't heard for ages)
  • Came up with a new fic idea
  • Sat out in the garden just to feel the breeze
  • Started organising something small for next month

Okay, there were some other things that happened that weren't so good, but it's the end of the day and I feel good, and that doesn't happen often, so. I'm just happy that I've had a good day that's left me with more mental energy than normal.

Having said that, I am completely shattered, and should probably go to sleep now.
A neon sign saying "shhhh"
I got reminded earlier of a song I used to like, but had at some point completely forgotten about (which is something that happens to me more often than I'd like to admit). So I just looked on my computer to see if I still had it - and for once I got lucky!

Thing is, it doesn't quite sound right. The tune sounds the same, the lead singer sounds the same, the lyrics sound the same... or, at least, they do until I get to this one bit at the end of the chorus, where the lyrics have turned into something that sounds suspiciously like "arrrrr-di-arrrrr".

This leads me to believe that either my hearing has got much worse than I had previously thought, or that a bunch of drunken pirates stumbled across the song while breaking into my computer, started singing along and accidentally recorded over the track itself.
Headphones and stars
I swear, there is nothing - and I mean nothing - that is annoying in the same way as being on the verge of tears all day and still not actually being able to cry. Even listening to all the sad songs I own (all 30 of them!) isn't helping.

This is getting ridiculous.

Moral of the story: I need sadder songs. Also, "That's Why They Call It The Blues" by Elton John.
Cat with a halo
For the record, my weekend was awesome. It involved being with two people (and a cat who's pretty much a people) who I care about a lot, listening to Adam Lambert for the first time (while not my usual scene, I did quite like what I heard), and watching the Wizard of Oz for the first time (I've been told about the book, and I just daren't read it now), and failing miserably at Guitar Hero (half the songs I tried just sounded like noise, but my one working ear feels like it needs to pop/has water in it/something like that, which might be why), and I got a present, which I'm not going to tell you about until I can get it to work (the manufacturer seems to actively hate the idea of someone actually using this product, judging by how hard it is to open the battery compartment).

Anyway, I'm on my way home now, which is probably why the sun is shining. Seriously, not a cloud in the sky. Which is typical, considering it was raining all weekend.

Talking of sun, am I the only adult in the world whose reaction to bright sunlight is to sneeze? I've heard of kids doing it, but they all grew out of it, and I never did. Also, I'm the only person on this bus who's wearing sunglasses, which makes me seem even weirder. Except it also makes everyone around me seem weird, because this is some bright sunlight.

Oooh, wind turbines.

My therapist called me earlier (just as I was getting on the bus, because that's what Sod's Law is) to tell me that my next appointment is next Tuesday at 2:30. Or, at least, that's what I think she said. I'd better phone her back later to check. Here's hoping she won't mind.

SO. I would like to talk about a few things.

Firstly, if anyone ever asks me how I feel about my gender ever again, I'm just going to point them to Being Liquid by [livejournal.com profile] rotaryphones and just say something like ~that~, because that's pretty much it. Plus, it is an incredibly good fic.

Secondly, I spent most of last night watching this vid by [livejournal.com profile] glass_moment, because the song is crack and the vid is perfect. It doesn't hurt that Lancehot Lancelot has chemistry with everything1.

Thirdly, and on the subject of Merlin, this Merlin!Puffs cartoon is possibly the cutest thing since this Puffs! At The Disco one. And I don't even listen to Panic! At The Disco2.

Fourthly, if I don't get "In The Mood" by Glen Miller out of my head any time soon, I may just explode. The same goes for "Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)" by Elton John, "Thnks fr th Mmrs" by Fall Out Boy, "Hit Me with Your Best Shot" by Pat Benetar, "Rock You Like a Hurricane" by The Scorpions, and Gun's cover of "Word Up". Naturally, I own none of them, because that would be useful, and my life doesn't do useful.

Fourth-and-a-halfly, my brain almost did explode on Thursday for that reason, but due to the songs "Echo Beach" by Martha & The Muffins, "King Of Wishful Thinking" by Go West, and "The Joker" by the Steve Miller Band. Luckily I found them all on my granddad's collection of freebie CDs3.

Fifthly, I could do with learning how to deal with having crushes on people better, especially if I'm going to keep having this many going on at once4.

And lastly, I should try to work out if all those other numbers really needed the suffix -ly. I'm pretty sure that they didn't, but I really can't be bothered to correct them.

PS: After the last comment I wrote, I'm not writing anything else today, including any of the huge number of replies to comments I need to do. I no longer trust myself to make any sense at all, because my brain has just decided to do this, which just happens to be excellent timing because OMG THERE'S A COOKIE!

*noms*

1Including, but not limited to: Arthur, Gwen, Merlin, Gaius, a Griffin, a sword, his own hair, and the bars of his cell.
2And now I've seen the cartoon, this may be subject to change in the very near future.
3You know the ones I mean - the ones that come free with newspapers every now and then, but only ever seem to have one song on that you actually like. For some reason, my granddad has a stash of them, and he doesn't even like any of them.
4Also, I'm starting to think that if I have a crush on someone for more than a year and they don't notice at all, I need to learn to let it rock let it roll let it go5.
5Also, I must learn not to make bad lyric references that no-one else will get.

Your Karaoke Theme Song is "Livin' On a Prayer"

You believe the best things in life are mostly forgotten, and you're definitely more than a little nostalgic .

You're likely to still like the same foods, fashions, and music as you did when you were a teenager.

You have a knack for knowing what elements of pop culture people have missed, without them even realizing it.

It's great to remember the past, but don't forget that not everyone is as stuck in it as you are.

You might also sing: "Pour Some Sugar on Me," "Rapper's Delight," and "Cherry Pie"

Stay away from people who sing: "Toxic"

Damn right, Blogthings. You know I'd do it XD

Made sure I spent last night having a good time. Watched The Daily Show (would have been on TV on Monday in America - We get it a day later at 8:30pm (our time) here, on More4 for those in the UK who want to watch it) and got to see Jon Stewart singing part of "Turning Japanese" by The Vapors (why do I not have this song?). Watched a re-run of Have I Got News For You, and got to see Ian Hislop saying he liked "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana. These are the times when music makes me feel even better - when the result is great comedic effect.

At the bus stop this morning (and this is somewhat related), some guy decided to talk music with me. Bad idea, hip-hop boy. First rule of talking music with me - don't take the music too seriously. Because, hey, I'm a Def leppard fan, you can't take that sort of music seriously, you just can't. Rock music is about the absurd and the outrageous, so they say. Of course, this was something that hip-hop boy did not get, and try as I might to explain it to him, he still did not get it. I tried to explain it using "Pour Some Sugar On Me" by Def Leppard - "I've heard it" hip-hop boy says "but it sounds like something you'd hear in a strip club". "That's why the band themselves call it 'The Stripper Anthem'! It's stripperific!" says I. He gives me a weird look, the bus comes, and we sit as far away from each other as possible.

This leads to me working out what 'stripperific' actually means. And I figure that it means something that you can not only strip to, but pole dance and other forms of erotic dancing. But the song should not be taken too seriously, because it's going to have that label attached to it, and you couldn't possibly take a song seriously after that.

SO. Let's see how stripperific some songs are, for a laugh. The first three songs that came on my mp3 player this morning, plus the stripper anthem itself. Vote 10 for 'totally stripperific', 0 for 'totally not stripperific', any other number for anything inbetween as you see fit. If you don't want to vote on all the songs (because you don't know them or whatever), there's an 'abstained' option you can use.

[Poll #1278908]

PS: Like I said, this isn't to be taken seriously.

PSS: All that work, and I put the wrong song in the poll *headdesk*

NEW QUEEN, I HAS IT!

And it makes me happy.

Here, have my best attempt at a track-by-track rundown... )

And it does feel like a whole - even though I know I'll take my favourites and mix them up, I know that this is one of those albums I will listen to end to end when I do listen
to it. Who needs shuffle? God knows that this album doesn't.

So, [livejournal.com profile] acroamatica did this meme, Ten Sentences That Mean You're Definitely Talking To... and I thought "That's cool, but I can't even think of one thing." So let's see if you guys, between you, can think of 10 sentences that mean you're talking to me.

Have fun with that XD

It also hugely amuses me that, as it stands right now, over 50% of people would marry me purely for a choice of first-dance song. It's beautiful, that's what it is.

I may have had such a bad day that I may have ended up watching a top 100 of 80's music and I may have screamed slightly at the top of my lungs when Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar On Me" came in at #2. I may have then squeaked in pain, because that was the last thing my chest needed.

I may have also laughed myself into a coughing fit over Joe calling it a "Stripper anthem" and trying to show how induendo-filled the song is by saying "'You got the peaches, I got the cream' - and I'm not talking about a fruit salad here." Oh Joe how so Yorkshire? - seeing him saying that next to a slightly giggling Phil. Also, seeing all their precious faces in the video may have killed me slightly.

The selection of 80's hits afterwards may have also made my day ^_^

So it's set - this year I'll be making all the Christmas presents I'll be giving out. Which gives me about 10 days to get it right.

And as for you guys... What about 3 more music mixes? All I need to do is upload them, but they may be a bit rubbish as they're more party songs and some guilty pleasures that I wasn't allowed to listen to at home while growing up. Oh, and a 5ive mix. Sorry, but I'd forgotten how much happy they give me. So they'll be up at the music post (that I've now stickied to the top of this journal to make things easier) when they upload.

Oh, and how on earth is it that everyone thinks it was the Vengaboys who did "Sex On The Beach"? IT WAS T-SPOON YOU FOOLS! Maybe letting me do music quizzes is a bad idea...
Cat with a halo
I'm practically crying. I just found a stash of music from the game "Gitaroo Man", and now I'm practically crying over "The Legendary Theme" (which, I think, was level 6 in the game - otherwise known as the lulliby level). It is so prettyful. The rest of the soundtrack is pretty good too, don't get me wrong, but this is just... Woah. This is my new "if I ever get married, I want this to be my first dance" song.

Gamer geek am I. Oh yes. Mayhaps a gamer geek fangirl possibly even.

I forgot to mention - I also have Final Fantasy music! Me is a happy gamer geek ^_^

It's amazing what a shower with good music can do for a person.

I no longer have blue legs either.

Congrats to the London bid team, I know you won't be reading this in favour of getting drunk. Oh well.

KFC have changed the music back! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! There's only one decent song on this CD ("Round Round" by Dead Or Alive) and NO BALLROOM BLITZ!!! I think I'm gonna go cry...

I just got my last Uni offer today, so now is the time to reply! In fact, I could have replied without seeing this last one, as the lowest offer is the one I got for the course I want to go for. However, I must admit, Sheffield's offer wasn't bad, but it would mean I'd have to get the top grades of my predictions to get in there. Luckily, Sheffield-Hallam's is below what I've been predicted, so it should, apart from being the course I want, be easy enough to get into. I'll reply to UCAS after I've finished writting this.

My hair is looking alot more purple today and there was no dye on my pillow this morning, so I'll take it that the dye from Sunday actually held properly this time. So that's New Year's Day and Easter Sunday already...when should I dye it next? I don't think there are any more important holidays till Halloween, unless I'm missing something. Next time, it'll be blue. Just because.

Buh-bye people! I'm off to reply to that...thing!

[Edit#1] - Replying to UCAS was too easy. I bet I did something wrong.
