Current mood: curious

This poll is brought to you by me noticing that my last poll was poll #3499, thinking that it would be nice for the 3500th poll on Dreamwidth to be a nice celebratory poll, and then rushing to try to make sure I got to post poll #3500 (which is much harder than it sounds, because my phone refused to connect to the internet for a while there).

Poll #3500
Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: All, participants: 256

Name one thing (or more than one, if you want) that makes Dreamwidth awesome:

[Edit #1] Your answer can involve people, communities, features, bugfixes, or anything else you can think of - if it's something on, about or related to Dreamwidth, it's fair game. I should have made that clearer in the wording of the question, sorry.

[Edit #2] Feel free to link other people to this, as I'd love to know what so many people love about this place!

[Edit #3 - 8:45pm] Less than 2 and a half hours in, and we already have 39 responses! To everyone who has responded so far: thank you so much!

[Edit #4 - 9:00pm] In the 15 minutes it took my phone to post the last edit, the number of respondants has jumped to 48. That's kind of epic, I'm not gonna lie.

[Edit #5 - 10:00pm] 79 responses! \o/

No problem! I was starting to worry that I hadn't thought this through properly tbh, but with so many people answering the poll I can't have done it too badly :)

Thanks!

(You have no idea how hard it is for me to say that, rather than saying something like "no it's not", even if it is over the internet *hides*)

Oh, man, I totally know what you mean. Like, every time someone says something awesome about DW, or about me in connection to DW, I have to stop myself from saying "but! but! But! It's nothing, really!" And every time we get an invite to go speak somewhere on DW, or anything like that, I have to stop myself from thinking "surely they could find someone who knew what they were talking about more than I do ..."

But that is imposter syndrome at work, and it sucks. So: This poll is awesome! And you are awesome for having thought to make it! *\o/*

So much stuff about DW is awesome, but right now my love for the cut-tag expander is front and center. I had no idea how quickly I would get used to it and how frustrating I would find reading LJ and not having it.

If you're a Firefox user, LiveJournal Addons has a fix for that. I don't know how I lived without it, and I was ecstatic to see Dreamwidth implement it's own cut-tag expander. :squishes it:

Yeah, I tried one on LJ before that was a greasemonkey script, I think, and it was really clunky so I got rid of it.

LJ Addons has some neat stuff, but it is too huge for me. It does like a hundred things and I only want one or two.

Point. (Still wanted to mention it, because "$awesome_thing exists on DW but not on LJ" statements are IMO harmful when they're untrue.)

A slightly less facetious answer would be the Diversity Statement/Guiding Principles/Terms of Service. That's what brought me here from LJ back in the beta days.

Now I stay because it's made of win and awesome.

I think overall, my "love it like a loving thing" choice would be the lack of bugs, or that those that appear get fixed damn sharpish, and DW admins are nice and reasonable if you ever have to make complaints about something. And they act on them more often than not.

Whereas with LJ, I've been unable to make voice posts over 60 seconds for approximately three years, and they don't give a crap. There are half a dozen other problems on which they only drop temp fixes and shrug when you tell them "this is broken again."
