So, I'm hoping to expand my DVD collection a little, and have some great suggestions of things to buy.

BUT I have no idea whether I'll even be able to enjoy some of these suggestions, because I simply do not know if English subtitles will be available on the DVD. I'm having to buy them on the internet, so I'm having to rely on the websites to provide that information - except that these aren't massively popular films, so often the information isn't provided.

Which is why I really need your help.

If you happen to own one of the following on DVD, can you please check whether it has the option to view English and/or other language subtitles during the film? If you could also say which region it's from, that would be really useful.

[Note: links go to the film's IMDB page, so you can check that we're talking about the same film.]

[Edit] Please feel free to pass this post on to other people who might be able to help - I could use all the help I can get with this.

[Edit #2] For the record, my DVD player is Region 2, but I know people who have multi-region players, so other regions can be an option if needed.

Passing through via network but I got my dad the Region 2 DVD of Priscilla Queen of the Desert a while back and it has English subtitles. Hope that helps a little.

Ditto to the above. I bought this a month or so ago and it definitely still has the subtitles in English, as well as a strange combo of other languages you probably don't care about.

I could check Home at the End of the World for you, but I'm pretty sure I got the German version, so that information would do you no good.

I'll check it, though. If I did indeed get the UK DVD, I'll let you know tomorrow :)

I just checked ... I have the German version (so Region 2, but still not UK version *G*), and that one doesn't have subtitles in any language, so it'd be a fair bet to say the UK one doesn't either?

I've no idea, though. Sorry I can't be of more help!

According to Amazon.com (well, whatever version is available in the US):

The Adventures Of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert: Subtitles: English, Spanish
Imagine Me And You: Subtitles: English, Spanish, French
Kinky Boots: Subtitles: English, Spanish
I Can't Think Straight: Says "subtitled" but is non-specific
Milk: Subtitles: English, French, Spanish
Better Than Chocolate: Subtitles: English, Spanish, French
Chutney Popcorn: Nothing listed
My Summer of Love: Subtitles: English, French, Spanish
To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar: Closed-captioned
The World Unseen: Subtitles: Spanish, French (this is the region 2 copy)
Camp: Subtitles: English, Spanish
A Home At The End Of The World: Subtitles: English, French, Spanish
Itty Bitty Titty Committee: Nothing listed

And that's all the help I can be, sorry I don't own any of these.

Like I said, these are mostly the US versions (except for the one that I noted was region 2) so I have no idea if that's useful to you or not. If you know someone with a region 1 player, maybe you could get copies of the US ones?

I can't help you out with any of them but the title Itty Bitty Titty Committee makes me chortle like a schoolgirl.

I liked Kinky Boots. I really did.

However, I was sorely disappointed when I found out how wildly inaccurate it was. They say it is "based on a true story" when all they really mean is "there actually was a factory that made mens' shoes that now makes fetish boots." The whole plot - meeting Lola and having that be a catalyst for everything - is made up. Which made me sad. :-(
