A little help here?
Feb. 9th, 2010 01:07 pmBUT I have no idea whether I'll even be able to enjoy some of these suggestions, because I simply do not know if English subtitles will be available on the DVD. I'm having to buy them on the internet, so I'm having to rely on the websites to provide that information - except that these aren't massively popular films, so often the information isn't provided.
Which is why I really need your help.
If you happen to own one of the following on DVD, can you please check whether it has the option to view English and/or other language subtitles during the film? If you could also say which region it's from, that would be really useful.
[Note: links go to the film's IMDB page, so you can check that we're talking about the same film.]
- The Adventures Of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert
- Imagine Me And You
- Kinky Boots
- I Can't Think Straight
- Milk
- Better Than Chocolate
- Chutney Popcorn
- My Summer of Love
- To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar
- The World Unseen
- Camp
- A Home At The End Of The World
- Itty Bitty Titty Committee
[Edit] Please feel free to pass this post on to other people who might be able to help - I could use all the help I can get with this.
[Edit #2] For the record, my DVD player is Region 2, but I know people who have multi-region players, so other regions can be an option if needed.
So how did I end up spending 20 minutes in there?
(And why does it keep on happening? I do this every time!)
(Also, I ended up with a free bar of leftover Christmas soap that they're trying to get rid of. Soap was one of those things I was going to get on Thursday. Guess I don't need to now.)

Feb. 4th, 2010 07:38 pmSo, here are ten pi-based things I'd like to buy right now:
( Today's post is brought to you by the number pi... )
Power Cut! At The Disco
Feb. 2nd, 2010 09:09 pmSo, I attended my cousin's wedding, which is how I found out that she's had a baby. Baby was ridiculously well behaved for an 11 week old who was being passed around like the prize in a game of pass the parcel until about midnight.
Yes, I burst into tears part way through the night, which I blame on people not telling me about the baby beforehand. I was well prepared in advance for the whole "feeling like crap because the chances of me ever getting married are close to zero" thing (this happens to other (single?) people too, right?), but I wasn't prepared for the "feeling like crap because, as far as the doctors are concerned, the chances of me ever having those children I've always wanted are close to zero" bit. Gotta love it when that happens.
Another thing you have to love at discos - power cuts. Apparently the whole area was affected, not just our hotel, but half an hour of darkness gives you loads of time to make jokes about how the DJ caused it.
Oh, and I got mistaken for my older sister a lot, even though we were wearing completely different outfits, had different hairstyles, and her husband was with her most of the time.
Other than that, not much to report. Except that the train ride home was a nightmare (I booked a seat on a direct train, but we had to change twice due to train problems, and I couldn't hear the announcements telling us what to do, and the staff weren't helpful at all, so I had to ask other passengers for help, and I never want to have to do all that ever again, it was that horrible), but I got to find out what a caramel hot chocolate tastes like, so that made up for it.
[Locked because my family don't know about the not-able-to-have-kids thing yet. Although the ones who care about that already know that I'm queer, and probably think that the chances of me ending up with a guy are so small that baby-making won't happen anyway, but still - them finding out through a blog entry that I never expected them to read would be bad form. Also, it would mean admitting to them that I was crying, which I refuse to do, because they all think I'm insane enough without adding that to the mix.]
I can't even go away for one weekend...
Jan. 31st, 2010 03:33 pmSeriously, I'm never gonna be offline for most of a weekend ever again.
Chug-a-chug-a-chug-a-chug-a-CHOO-CHOO!

My new coat! It is lovely and warm, and the sleeves are long enough for me. I think that's all that matters.
( 3 more photos... )
PS: Dancing on a train will earn you some weird looks. Just so you know.

Jan. 24th, 2010 07:45 pm| Category | Number of Fics | Percentage (approx) |
|---|---|---|
| F/F | 44 | 4.6% |
| F/M | 181 | 19.0% |
| Gen | 258 | 27.0% |
| M/M | 401 | 42.0% |
| Multi | 57 | 6.0% |
| Other | 14 | 1.5% |
Or, for those who'd rather see that in piechart form:

(No, I'm totally not using this as an excuse to get my geek on, so hush. That said, if anyone just happens get access to/know how to get access to the numbers-breakdown for all the fics posted to AO3 (or any other archive for that matter, I'm not fussy), I would do almost anything to look at them. I kinda love numbers, no lie. Also, I plan on comparing this set of figures to the figures as they stand this time next week, if I remember, because this particular snapshot might not be all that fair/representative.)
Anyway, back to the point - WE NEED MORE FEMSLASH.
How exactly this should be accomplished is something I should have thought about before I started making this post. Hmmm.
[So that this isn't a completely wasted post, things you could talk about in the comments include:
- Your favourite F/F pairings (or F/F/F threesomes, etc)
- Fics you like
- Fics you'd like to see written
- Fics you're writing/trying to write (especially if you'd like me/people in general to cheer you on/handhold/beta/etc)
Or you could just complain about the lack of F/F fic out there - I'm not going to stop you, because that'd be ten kinds of hypocritical.]

Should I post my latest icons in an icon post?
Ticky?
Also, while I'm here, is it worth me staying up to watch the first episode of Leverage? It's kinda only just made it's way here.
[Edit] This is beautiful. Pretty people, good lines and 'SPLOSIONS!!! Loving this! \o/
Three things:
Jan. 21st, 2010 06:24 pm- I never noticed that there was a zombie in a wheelchair in Shaun of the Dead before (during the bit where they're pretending to be zombies while trying to get to the Winchester). Of course, I only noticed that because I was trying to ignore the fact that I was still teary-eyed from Philip's little speech. Which is slightly worrying, because I don't cry at these things.
Living TV hates me. Out of the last 7 episodes of Criminal Minds that I've tried to watch, only one had subtitles available. WHY?!? They're all from season one, and they've all been shown with subtitles before!
Pizza Buckaroo is more fun when you have food to play with. Otherwise it's just putting a little extra cheese on a pizza, rather than piling random foodstuffs on it and hoping it tastes okay (you only win if nothing you put on falls off - otherwise the game is far too easy).
Meme anyone?
Jan. 19th, 2010 11:59 amThe first ten people to comment in this post get to request that I write a drabble of any pairing/character of their choosing...(There were rules for this, but I ate them. Om nom nom rules.)
I'm making up my own rules here, because I can.
Fandoms that I can write in include (but are not limited to) Final Fantasy XII, Final Fantasy IX, Superdictionary, (new) Doctor Who1, Harry Potter, D.E.B.S, Criminal Minds and most other fandoms I've ever talked to you about (if you're not sure, just ask!) Things that I write well include girlslash (or whatever you want to call it), fluff, crack, families of choice and Superdictionary idiom2.
Also, the ten prompts will come from the comments to this post and all related crossposts, as I don't want to promise more than ten. However, if we do reach ten, feel free to add other suggestions, and I'll have a go at any extras that catch my fancy.
( And now I'm going to list some things I want to write/see written, but don't know if I can do justice to: )
1 I'm confident about writing Ten and I'll try Nine, but I don't have a handle on Eleven yet. Sorry!
2 Even in fandoms that aren't Superdictionary related. Why not?

Jan. 18th, 2010 09:14 pmI also just re-did my dreamwidth layout. It kinda sucks as layout for other people to use, but it's almost perfect for me to read.
I was going to post this last night...
Jan. 17th, 2010 04:02 pm
And this is me trying to get a better photo of me in my new dress:

Yeah, that'd be me falling over.
In conclusion, I should not try to get different angles on photos when I'm hugely dizzy. Or when I've only just got out of the bath, and my muscles are still feeling slightly too relaxed to function. Or something.
Also, those polls from yesterday are still open and I'd love it if you could take part. Only I can see what option you've chosen, for the sake of privacy (for those who aren't out/don't want the world to know for whatever reason), and I'm only doing them out of curiosity regarding what percentage of people who actually read my entries consider themselves queer (which I should have said in the post itself, and I shall go fix that). So if you're reading this and haven't already responded, please take the poll at Dreamwidth or the poll at LiveJournal (whichever you use most).
Ho-lee shit, the sky IS blue O.O
